Valbonne Vélo Social Club |
Valbonne Vélo Social Club is a friendly cycling and social club based in Valbonne, in the heart of Southern France. Our members—men and women of all ages, nationalities, and cycling abilities—ride everything from classic road bikes and modern e-bikes.
We host two regular group rides each week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with routes suited to different levels of difficulty and duration. Every Wednesday, we cycle the same route starting from Valbonne. The Wednesday ride is approximately 30 km, takes about two hours, and finishes with a coffee.
On Sundays, rides also begin in Valbonne, although in the summer, when the weather gets hot, we sometimes start higher up in the Alps and in the winter, we sometimes set off from the Mediterranean coast. A few times a year, we also organize special trips to explore other regions of France or nearby Italy.
However, cycling is only part of what brings us together. We’re also a social community, enjoying both planned events and spontaneous gatherings. For those who prefer the social side without the cycling, we warmly welcome “friends” who join us just for the fun and off the bike.
The Club was formed in 2017 by a group of friends who had been cycling together for a couple of years. The idea was to create a club that would combine cycling, or velo in French, with social activities. A desire emerged to create a more formal structure and to attract members and sponsors. Very quickly the numbers grew, sponsors contributed, club kit was designed and multiple events took place.
We pride ourselves on being welcoming and friendly, while sharing our passion for cycling and post-ride refreshments and lunch.
The climate lends itself to the cycling with mostly sunny weather throughout the year.
The club is based in the beautiful village of Valbonne in the foothills of the French Alps. To the West the magnificent Esterel coast stretches to the Bay of St Tropez and to the East we can easily cycle into Italy. Mountain villages such as Gourdon and Vence offer breathtaking views and classic climbs such as the Col d’Eze or the Col de Vence which are very close.
Our membership is diverse with male and female members of all ages from different parts of the world who enjoy cycling and socialising and have chosen this region for its beauty, climate and quality of life.
